COVID-19: Where We Are Now and the Future of Supply Chains

To our valued customers, partners and colleagues we hope you, your families and team members are safe. There is nothing more important than that at this point of the pandemic.

It has been said numerous times, but we are in an unprecedented time in modern history – something that no one would imagine we would be facing in the 21st century. We are all confronting unmatched challenges in our personal and professional lives. Along the way we find bright spots as communities and businesses come together to help friends, neighbors and colleagues.

Serving our customers has never been a higher priority for us than it is now. Insequence developed and deployed our COVID-19 Business Continuity plan early in the process to provide assurance that our operations and those of our customers would continue uninterrupted. Understanding now that most, if not all, major OEM automotive manufacturers are shut down, we are still actively working on projects across the globe. These include new implementations, continuing work on existing projects, upgrading programs and custom programming.

Focusing on the well-being of our team and their families, Insequence personnel are all working remotely. To prepare for this we stress tested our systems, tested flex hours for our technical support center and ensured that connectivity and equipment were up to date. Our team embraced this approach even though so many of them prefer to interact with each other face-to-face. So far, we have not seen any disruptions or degradation of service. For the foreseeable future, we plan to keep our team remote but will monitor the COVID-19 situation and adjust plans as necessary for their well being and for your success.

Supply Chain Vulnerabilities

The current situation shows just how vulnerable our supply chain is and can be globally. Global disruptions were felt early into the pandemic as COVID-19 impacted labor and forced closures of manufacturing facilities in China. This impact is now also being seen by supply chains in the western hemisphere as suppliers idle, affecting the overall ability to feed material and parts through the supply chain. And demand is down at OEMs, limiting the ultimate need.

It is anticipated that there will be a range of changes and reconfiguration of the automotive supply chain when this situation subsides. It is somewhat premature to make too many assumptions, but suppliers could move factories “closer to home”, facilitating the move of other key businesses out of traditional manufacturing regions. Out this will be borne new processes, updated workflows and a myriad of technical changes will be required.

As an Insequence customer, you can rest assured that we will stay on top of these changes and make any adjustments needed in our software and services to align with any supply chain reconfiguration and requirements.

The Future Is Now and What Can You Do Today?

As we navigate further into Industry 4.0, suppliers may be leapfrogging some of the technological advancements and smart factory development more quickly to better manage risk and ensure continuity of the supply chain over the long term. For the time being, there’s no time like the present to conduct your own risk mitigation. Start preparing for the future by assessing your onsite IT infrastructure, ensuring your servers are optimized and conduct security and other performance checks. Is your staff trained adequately on all the systems you, as an IT team support?

As challenging as the current situation is, now is the time to be thinking about the future and what changes will be happening in manufacturing and the supply chain going forward. A year from now may not look like today in a number of ways. Plants will be relocating, technology will be accelerating at a faster pace and there will be more of a focus on risk mitigation.

Be confident that Insequence will be in lock step with you every inch of the way. We are preparing our team by investing in additional training and continuing to improve our product to be fully ready as we exit the most-challenging time the world has experienced since World War II.

Stay safe. Be prepared. Be Ready. Be confident.
