Comparing Differences of JIT, JIS and Batch Build

Just in Time (JIT), Just in Sequence (JIS), and Batch Build are three different manufacturing techniques used by automotive suppliers depending on OEM requirements. All three are critical in meeting supply chain demands as the last mile of the supplier network for automotive manufacturing.

Just in Time (JIT): JIT is a manufacturing process in which components and raw materials are delivered to the production line exactly when they are needed. The goal is to minimize inventory and reduce waste, while increasing efficiency and flexibility in production.

Just in Sequence (JIS): JIS is a variation of JIT in which components are delivered to the production line in the exact sequence in which they are needed. This ensures that components are available when they are needed and minimizes the need for storage space.

Batch Build: With Batch Build, manufacturing of identical products is produced at one time, before moving on to the next batch. This approach is typically used when production volumes are relatively low, like parts are required consecutively and demand is stable. It allows suppliers to take advantage of economies of scale and maximize efficiency in production.

Overall, JIT and JIS are focused on reducing waste and improving efficiency by minimizing inventory and delivering components just in time, while batch build is focused on maximizing efficiency through economies of scale in production. Neither is exclusive to each other, and many manufacturers may utilize all three techniques at some point for the OEMs. Insequence is a proud partners to automotive suppliers globally and provides solutions to address each step of the supplier process, inlcuding these three different manufacturing techniques.

Insequence Corporation

Insequence is a leading provider of sequencing and manufacturing software solutions. Easily tailored to individual facilities, the company’s software modular design can fulfill requirements no matter the size or complexity of the system. This results in a standard sequencing system, SPD Pro that is more complete and capable than any other solution. In addition to just-in-sequence (JIS), Insequence provides Manufacturing Execution System (MES), Inventory Management, and SCADA solutions.

With experience throughout the Americans and Europe, plus over 20 standard automotive OEM interfaces and 24  x 7 x 365 customer support, Insequence is at the forefront of supply chain software solution providers. As a result, they still work with their original customer from 1996.
